ART
(The images blew are of the same painting but the right one is zoomed in.)
1. Descripton of the work. In the background there appears to be a water tank as well as a railroad station with a car parked by it. there are also more houses in the far background. There also seems to be an electricity line. In the fore ground are three workers, one is growing cabbages and the other three on the left are excavating the land. Possibly laying down a railroad track hence the train behind them. Whatever they are doing, it is clearly hard labor, as most work for the WPA was.
2. This is an oil painting done by a WPA worker named Jack J. Greitzer during the Great Depression. It is currently located in a post office in Ohio as part of the nation-wide chain of post offices with original American artworks hung on their walls. This work was installed in 1938. The artist was born in 1910.
3. This piece shows how not only the people worked for the WPA but how many post offices across America still recognize what these poor Americans had to suffer through and how the Federal Government finally came to the rescue and together the people made America a better place for generations to come. What this painting reveals about the peoples work was labor intensive and very hard. However, this implies the honor of these jobs by representing these working men as true good Americans who were directly serving the country. This accurately depicts how Americans did feel dignified now, knowing that they were a beneficial member of the community and the country. They worked for little money but with great pride for the first time in years.
